A research and analysis of Lee, Shing-Yan’s composition of Chinese, English and Cantonese songs

This research focuses on the author's self-composed songs in the master's graduation concert. There is a total of eight songs, mainly lyrical songs. The content of the songs is based on the author’s life stories, the story background of love, loneliness, homesickness, and religion. The languages include Chinese, English, and Cantonese. In addition, the target audience of this study is mainly adults and teenagers.

This thesis uses the musical analysis research method to discuss the analysis of the creative background and concept, music composition, arrangement, recording, and mixing of the songs. Furthermore, this thesis is divided into seven parts: preface, introduction, literature review, analysis of Chinese music, analysis of English music, analysis of Cantonese music, and conclusion.

Through this research, the author hopes to present the creative process of the work more concretely and contribute to the development of future creators and serve as a reference. Finally, the author expects the work can resonate with the audience and bring out positive energy, and exert its influence.
