This thesis is the program notes of Sheng-Yuan Su’s Clarinet Chamber Music Concert. The repertoire of this concert includes five famous clarinet chamber music compositions from the Romantic period, and the Twentieth century. This thesis discusses the life of the composers, the background of the compositions, and the analysis of these five pieces.
The content of this thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the Concert Piece for Two Clarinets and Piano, No. 2 in D minor, Op.114, composed by Felix Mendelssohn. The second chapter is the Il Convegno Divertimento for Two Clarinets with Piano Accompaniment, Op. 76, composed by Amilcare Ponchielli. The third chapter is the Suite form L'histoire du Soldat for Violin, Clarinet and Piano, composed by Igor Stravinsky. The fourth chapter is the Suite for Violin, Clarinet, and Piano, Op. 157b, composed by Darius Milhaud. The fifth chapter is the Concert Piece for Two Clarinets and Piano, composed by Michele Mangani.
