This research is based on Concerto pour Flûte et Orchestre à Cordes, a work by French contemporary composer, André Jolivet (1905-1974). However, the findings of this research is based on the version for Flute and Piano rather than the original version, which is written for Flute and String Orchestra.
This paper will focus on the work’s style and the writing skills. Although the work is originally written for Flute and Orchestra, as mentioned earlier, this research is based on the version for Flute and Piano, therefore the orchestration and structure will not be discussed but will be analyzed in the Piano version.
There are five chapters in this paper. Firstly, an introduction will be given, which will include both the motivations and research methods. Secondly, the outline of the composer’s life will be presented. Then, the structure of the concerto will be analyzed. Instructions for interpreting the concerto will then be given in the followed chapter. Lastly, the overall findings of the research will be concluded.
