The development of information technology has changed the way picture books are presented. Through Augmented Reality (AR), the interactive creation has provided an emerging reading experience. It is interactive design that not only increases reader's interest in reading, but also creates immersion in the story. For these reasons, I decide to present an AR interactive picture book as my creation.
The study tends to find a proper way to apply AR and to present a story based on social pressure agenda in a picture book. The study finds that with AR, picture books could add animation to help the story proceed. Readers could also ease their reading pace through interactive contents. In addition, people could gain different multi-dimensional reading experience with AR. Regarding the narrative of social pressure agenda in picture books, the most important thing is to attract readers. Then, we could see how characters face difficulties and lead to a happy ending.
The picture book is based on 2D rendering style with semi-realistic texturing. I decide to integrate this art style with AR. The content will be based on recent Asian social phenomenon where young people leave home and work in non-local places. The protagonist of the story is an office worker who works in a non-local company. Though collecting clues together with the protagonist, readers could see how he explores the new environment, so that they can be immersed in the story. Readers could also reflect themselves on whether people can maintain their original intentions after facing various social pressures. The outcomes of the study provide an insightful understanding for the people who in the future want to apply multimedia technologies to the creation of the storytelling about social pressure agenda in interactive picture books.
