"Capriccio No.5 for Erhu and Symphony Orchestra-Nakhi" is the 5th capriccio for erhu composd by George Gao in May, 2013. The composition is for Yi-Wen Lu, and its debut was at the 9th Chinese Golden Bell Awards for Music. Living abroad in Canada for years gives George Gao a diversity of ideas in music. He adds different musical elements to the series of capriccio for erhu and makes each piece unique. This is exactly the motivation for the author to do this research.

This research adopts data collection, analysis method, interview method and composition interpretation. Firstly, the author will study the composer's life and creation concepts via documents. After that, the author will summarize the creation motivations and creation methods of capriccio No.1 to No.4 and realize the relevance among these capriccios. Finally, the author will analyze the composition, including its structure and the use of materials.

"Capriccio No.5 for Erhu and Symphony Orchestra-Nakhi" applies the musical elements of Yunnan Nakhi, Reggae and Jazz with the rhythm of Waltz. A large number of new techniques are used in the playing skills, such as plucking and double strings, which makes the composition unique in technology and melody. Through the result of the research, we can know that the composer integrates his creation concepts and experiences into his works to increase diversity. In the composition interpretation, the performer must control the style of music well and fully present the work. Hope this research can provide some reference values for future reseachers to analyze George Gao's works.
