The subject of the thesis is an illustration of the director's creative ideas and management 'sbook, and the record of the process producing 《M. Butterfly》. Chapter I is preface. Chapter II is a statement of the space-time logic of the play. The form of “switching the space-time” is what the director adopted to create the possibility of presentation. Chapter Ⅲ is a statement of the analysis of characters in the play. The director adopted Carl Jung's theory of psychology to analyze Renée Gallimard's characteristics and other characters. Chapter Ⅳ is a statement of the director's method, which is mainly drowned on the Proscenium Stage Directing Style and secondarily applied on the Epic Theatre Directing Style owing to the limitation of the theater and actor's quality. The Conclusion is a statement of the comparison between predicted and unpredicted outcomes coming from the audience of five put-on performances.
