The purpose of the study was to assess the different water elements of Impressionist piano solo works through analysis and interpretations of Ravel’s Une Barque sur L'Ocean and Debussy’s Reflets Dans L’eau. The thesis focused on various collected references to compare and analysis two works. The paper consists of three parts: (a) definition of Impressionism, introducing compositional development of Debussy and Ravel and their music characters, and their different water elements of piano solo works (b) describing background, music analysis , and interpretation of Une Barque sur L'Ocean and Reflets Dans L’eau (c) comparing to the different water elements of two pieces.
