Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe composed six sonatas for solo violin in total, which are Ysaÿe’s late representative works. In addition, these works are one of the most important repertoires in all solo violin works. Among these six sonatas, the forth sonata, Solo Sonata No.4, Op. 27, is selected to be the subject of this article, furthermore, this sonata was dedicated to the violinist Fritz Kreisler. This article describes and discusses the composer’s music and composing technique, it then goes on to recognize and analysis the structure and interpretation of this sonata.

This article can be divided into five chapters. Chapter one, the introduction, represents the purpose, motivation, range and method of the research. Chapter two, Ysaÿe’s life and his violin works, introduces the background and life of Ysaÿe, then discusses Ysaÿe’s sonatas for solo violin and his Solo Sonata No.4, Op. 27. Chapter three, the analysis of Solo Sonata No.4, Op. 27. Chapter four, the interpretation of Solo Sonata No.4, Op. 27. The last chapter unfold the conclusion of the study.
