Scowl at the Air-Body Image of Contradiction In Everyday Life's Cover

The proposition of my thesis is "Scowl at the air", which is a direct metaphor for another mode of thinking. This mode of thinking uses ineffective behaviors to dissolve unpleasantness. My own behavioral patterns casually solves the situations that are against me, and these recurring behavioral patterns closely surround the mind of my artworks. People are born to live under certain regulations and always show themselves in another form when they face the outside world. Corresponding to the inner rebellion, bodies contradict with each other. This thesis opens up with the preface "the private yet prevalent feelings", expecting to go deep into different people''s hearts and to be able to grow different fruits in different hearts. My cognition of daily things is fully reflected on my artwork, while my various thoughts and directions are always buried latently under the surface of every behavior, and embody my "everyday life" through my body, sensations, feelings, and perspectives. Because of the orbiting of daily life and the changes of everything on the orbit, I feel my own existence.

When I review the elements of my works and the backdrop against which my works were created, and analyze my works from the concepts and values in my early-life background, I find that from the happening of everything in my everyday life I develop my impressions on and definitions of things. The so-called "everyday life" is closely related to my works, my attitude for life, from my body--from the body that lives in the "everyday life" to the body in my works.

My first video art piece--"Red hair girl wants to be crazy"--starts my sensory interpretation of body behaviors. Through words withdrawn from emotions, the original meaning of words are changed and responses to the essence of things. Another piece of work, "in the raining", expresses my inner rebellion through straightforward actions; my sensation, by being soaked in rain, permeates into my heart and unleashes all of my emotions. This thesis analyzes my own creative works and finds that there are always two conflicting and contradictory things--my emotion and action, and the two respond to the most basic proposition in " Scowl at the air "--there are various thoughts and directions in my heart and a protective membrane of my outer shell. My daily observation, my inner self, and myself in the outside world have brought out my creative works in recent years. I search for meaning in everyday life, while the meaning naturally embodies in everyday life incidents. Through the discussion in this thesis, I can extend my creative directions and find my creative vocabulary.
