Liu, Chi-Hsiang was born in 1910 Liuying Dist, Taiwan City. After graduating from elementary school, he went to Tokyo. Unlike other Taiwanese students in Japan, he attended the private school, Bunka-Gakuin, and learned from Ishii-Hakute and Arishima-Ikuma. Besides, he devoted himself in the Japan's largest unofficial group, "Nikakai". His works were strongly influenced by Nikakai and in the foundation of Pleinairisme. Liu traveled to Europe, studied, and established his personal painting style during this period of time. When he returned to Tokyo, he won the Nika-shou. Liu returned to Taiwan after the second world war; during settling down in Kaohsiung, he devoted himself to Taiwan art education industry.

This article discuses about Liu’s works via forms analysis, space, composition, brush stroke, color arrangement. In the early time, Liu express group figures’ entertainingly by composition; In the middle time, he is focusing on figure’s expression and how to extending space through background; In the late time, Liu tries to present color and light through scumbled. In Liu’s works, the most brilliant part is color arrangement, character’s clothes are with red, yellow and blue. In his latest works, is mainly for white and pink. He expresses his romantic with those feelingly color.
