This thesis narrates the traditional materials used in Taiwan's modern musical works including oriental philosophies, visual arts and music materials, and how different composers relate the two and apply them in their musical creations. Finally, an account of the influences and inspirations for my own work "The World" is also a main focus of this thesis. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter, "Introduction", will briefly explain the research motivations, research methods and purposes of this thesis. In the second chapter, "The Application of Traditional Materials in Modern Music", four modern composers Ma Shui-Long, Pan Hwang-Long, Lai Deh-Ho and Chang Chiung-Ying are used as examples to demonstrate how traditional materials are transformed into personal musical grammars. In the third chapter, "Musical Works Affecting My Own Creation", musical works by composers Ma Shui-Long and Lai Deh-Ho are taken as examples to discuss their musical techniques. Finally, the fourth chapter, "Embodiment of My Own Musical Language", finds an objective analysis and discussion of my own chamber music work "The World", showing what and how traditional music materials are incorporated into the piece.
