Ornamental painting study is the theme of this research paper. The author struggles the differentiation and boundaries between Design and Art and wants to have further investigation about it.
In the beginning chapters, mid-century architecture, decorative totem of painting, Art Nouveau and Art Déco have further discussed and are chosen as research keywords for her artwork. The works of author between 2012 - 2016 take the decorative symbols become the essential ideas, the Semiotics, and she transforms it into works, locate main creative concept focus on Decorative Visual Arts.
After analysing the theories and elements of mid-century church decorative art and painting, the author attempts to construct her own individual characteristic using the classical decoration and modern totem languages.
Before European Renaissance, Art was divided to Fine Art and Applied Art. After Industry Revolution, Applied Art become the word “design”. In fact, fine art and design share certain level of theories which as color, form, order and decoration. From these researches, the author explores the possibilities of mix media and discovers how to deliver personal emotions and spirit through the materiality of media.
