Mel Bonis (1858-1937) is one of the famous composer of French in nineteenth century. The thesis is studying her composition “Sonata for Flute and Piano”, which is finished in 1904 and comprised four chapters. The sonata was composed for Louis Fleury (1878-1926), and was performed and published in the same year.

There are four chapters in this thesis. The first chapter states the research motivation and methodology. The second chapter introduces Bonis’ lifetime, her music style, creating background, and overview development of flute sonata. The third chapter demonstrates analysis and interpretation of each four chapters in the sonata. The forth chapter summarize the research of the above, and abstract my inspiration from this research.
