“Home: Diaspora and Return–Wen-Yu Chen’s Creative Discourse”, which analyzes the author’s creative engravings completed in two periods, first from 2012 to 2015 (bachelor’s program) and second from 2016 to 2018 (master’s program). This thesis explores individual inner spirit and images with memories. In this thesis, creative issues are clarified and creative contexts are constructed.

The thesis is the continuation of “Home Series” created during the period of university. During the university, the author explores the relationship between herself and originated family, considering the effects of blood relation and Chinese traditional concept brought by originated family on herself. The author attempts to record her memories from childhood through engravings, such as the houses she has lived in, the people she has met and the things she has experienced. On the basis of the context of home, the thesis examines the relationship between people and spaces from different times and backgrounds. The thesis shows that the concept of home is not only affected by blood relation and originated family but also influenced by different spaces. Because of the different spaces, the concept of home is extended to three: the old house, the house in Chiayi, and the rebuilded house.
