A military uniform is a symbol of a nation’s defense forces. Military camouflage patterns play an important role in soldiers’ uniforms, which serve many functions and also increases soldiers’ survival rate on the battlefields. Since 1896, the history of the development of military camouflage patterns has begun as some theories related to camouflage occurred. T the hunting- motive-pattern in the Warring States Periods (475-221 BC) depicts the fighting between the hunters and the beasts. The hunting-motive-pattern praises the bravery and power of the feudal warrior class in ancient China, and it also indirectly compliments the well-disciplined armies.

With different analytical documents and individual case studies, the thesis discusses the origin and the evolution of military camouflage patterns, the application of camouflage patterns in Taiwan, and the collection of hunting-motive-pattern, to explore human beings’ never-give-up spirit in camouflage patterns.

This thesis introduces the history of camouflage patterns throughout the world and defines thier origin via systematic methods. Based on the study of various camouflage patterns, the thesis includes the development of camouflage patterns and charts from different countries, to understand the connection between individual patterns and also serves as a reference for the future development of camouflage patterns.

Camouflage is not merely a symbol for military forces, it is a great acheivement combining military forces with art, which displays potential in the fields of academic study, business, and art. Moreover, camouflage is also an affective way to educate people on general knowledge about national defense.
