J. J. Quantz was one of famous musicians in the late Baroque era and served Frederick the Great for a lifetime. Because Frederick the Great loved flute music, J. J. Quantz taught Frederick the Great how to play the flute as well as the related knowledge. In return, Frederick the Great provided plenty of musical resources to J. J. Quantz. In addition, the passion for flute knowledge drove J. J. Quantz to improve the imperfect Baroque flute repeatedly. J. J. Quantz also composed a lot of beautiful music for the improved flute. Furthermore, his famous and remarkable article “On playing the flute” has made him of great significance in the Baroque flute music history.

The Concerto for Flute and Orchestra in G major composed by J. J. Quantz was the most famous one of all his flute music works. The thesis is organized as follows. The motivation will be discussed in Chapter 1, followed by a brief introduction of J. J. Quantz and his works in Chapter 2, and musical composition analysis in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 presents the unique viewpoint of the author, and finally, Chapter 5 will conclude the thesis.
