“Regarding nature as one’s teacher, one will gain the creative essence” generalizes the whole program of the spirit of the art. “To create from the mind of the artist” is the process of reconstructing the images of nature by using one’s unique emotional thoughts to reorganize the spatial relationship of the objective images with artist’s subjective arrangement. It is the projection of the artist’s mood and the re-simulation by way of images in nature. The purpose of the creative work is to make use of the essence in nature to recreate the essence of the subjective spirit of the artist. It is the means to settle the artist’s soul.

Ink and watercolor paintings is based on the traditional painting aesthetics. However, by adding western painting concepts, stressing rich colors with various expressive forms, along with the accumulation of artist’s experience, knowledge, ideas and academic research, it has become the current self-exploration for me to turn nature into paintings and it has developed different visions and creative paths (for myself). During the creative research process, I have re-experienced the joy of artistic creation by acknowledging experimental spirit of the modern ink painting which has loosen up layers of psychological restrains for me.

By way of reading and collecting literature on the related studies of traditional and modern, eastern and western art aesthetics and philosophies, this creative work research tries to use humanistic perspective to clear up and to set my own goal of creative spirit and the basis of creation. This creative work discussion is divided mainly into six chapters. The first chapter is on the motive and purpose of this research. The content and method used in this research will be discussed item by item. The second chapter is on the construction of the creative theories. Using the philosophies and aesthetics of Chinese Confucianism, Daoism, the modern experimental spirit and the western painting theoretical literature to probe the construction of creative theories. The third chapter is on the creative thinking and forms. I have explored the deconstruction and reconstruction in the creative process and the characteristics and form expressions by turning nature images into images in the mind. It will be discussed respectively in five subsections. The fourth chapter is on creative methods and practice. It describes the collection of materials, the documentation of the sketching process, the creation medium and techniques. The fifth chapter is on the explanations of series of creative works, which are divided into “series of image deconstruction” and “series of construction of images from nature”. The works of art in these two series will be annotated. The sixth chapter is the conclusion. I will re-exam and reflect on the creative works in this research.
