Wooden works with ‘movable elements’, described in this thesis, spark viewers’ interest of interacting with these works, as opposed to artworks crafted for mere observation. The three series of wooden works presented in this thesis are ‘Cookie Chairs’, ‘Gears Amusement Park’, and ‘Emotion Sensors’. ‘Cookie Chairs’ utilize the elasticity of wood, thereby creating a small movement when people sit on them. ‘Gears Amusement Park’ recreates popular amusement rides with large and visible wooden gears. Lastly, the ‘Emotion Sensors’ series combines motors and electronic induction devices to build faces capable of change of expressions, expressing the four emotions of happiness, anger, sadness and surprise. Mortise and tenon joints were applied as a basic technique of wood combination in these works, and the works were decorated with colorful parquetry in original wood colors. I expect to see viewers have fun interacting with these works when they visit my solo exhibition.
