“Anacusis” is an interactive performance created by the artist along with performers. Through double-sided projection, video, text, icons, and other imagery from monologues combine projection mapping and interactive programs for a live performance that places attention on the hearing impaired. The inspiration for this work comes from the artist’s experiences living with her elder sister who is hearing impaired. Through this work, the close emotional connection between the artist and her family is conveyed.
Chapter one of this paper discusses the background and motivations for this creative study. Chapter two conducts a literature review to explore the development and characteristics of projection mapping, as well as discusses the creative concepts and interactive methods of two projection mapping works, “The Jew of Malta” and “Re: Second Body”. Chapter three documents the development of the work and interviews between the artist and her elder sister. Chapter four describes the creative concept behind the interactive performance of Anacusis, including the images, content, presentation of limbs, and other elements of the script. Finally, the creative method and exhibition process are explained. Focusing care and attention on the hearing impaired, this work utilizes an interactive performance to tell the story of the artist’s hearing impaired sister interactions with her family.
