《The Beginning of the End》is a film made by Shih-Chiang, Hsu in 2007. The film is about how family trauma, financial burden, and other negative incidents in life contribute to people’s depression and melancholy. The film demonstrates the reality of the disadvantaged minority in our modern society, and shows how few choice do they have. Most part of the film depicts the relationship between the heroine and her brother, and their different “life values” when difficulties are encountered; in addition, the film also conveys signs through the representation of the heroine’s unusual behaviors to show how the idea of suicide was conceived.

This film was done through the process of digital camera shooting, PC editing and background music composition. It is a 45 minutes in length and has taken about ten months to accomplish.

The content of this dissertation are as the followings:

1. Chapter one: creating motivation and purpose. 2. Chapter two: discuss the suicide topic in this film which based on related information and cases study. 3. Chapter three: creating idea, design, and recording which clearly show the process of pre-production, filming and post-production, including the conducting details, problems, and solutions. 4. Chapter four: mainly about the meeting after first release, advices from professor and creator’s self examination and review. 5. Chapter five: conclusion and suggestions. Also, the appendices include the proposal of 《The Beginning of The End》, the complete script, continuity, work list, budget list, progress chart, photos, cool card, and posters. Hopefully, this work report can help other media study students and the experience can be passed down in the future.
