Brahms was once called little Beethoven when he was young. His hair was always a mess. He was grumpy and talked rudely. Brahms wanted to get rid of such a title on one hand, but inherited classicism on the other hand. He didn't follow the trend of that time, but formed his own style. He created a world that belonged to him. Such Brahms made his music possessed multi-aspects.

In his later years, Brahms was more composed and restrained than when he was young. His works op. 116, 117, 118, and 119 were very important piano works in his later years. The work op. 118 consists of six piano pieces. Each has its own style and characteristics and often played individually. Such as the second intermesso and the third ballade are well known.

Nevertheless, these six pieces with different personalities as a series of works are related in the process of connections. There are also important common nature among these six pieces.This study introduces the life of Brahms first then lists the piano works of Brahms in different periods. The analysis part is to look into the cognation of the six pieces and consolidate after studying one by one. Finally, the connections and the common nature are the conclusion of this study.
