The topic of this thesis is “Exploring humanity by creating multiple roles.” In this thesis HUNG KUO-JUI discusses how he conveys life perspective and social phenomena by creating different roles.HUNG KUO-JUI chooses “humanity” to be the main issue and “creating roles” to be the manner of expressions because they are closely related to daily life. It is common for people play multiple roles in the society and they are often faced with the difficulties caused by the shifts of the characters. It is similar to having different personalities. However, we often neglect the variety of our features due to busy lives. On the other hand, “playing roles” can be a way of psychotherapy. For example, performing on stage can show the performer’s true nature by playing different roles, and release stress and emotions that can’t be performed in daily life.
This thesis is divided into four chapters: Initiation of Creation, Life Perspective, Influences of art movement, Composition Style. The first chapter “Initiation of Creation” starts from his enthusiasm for TV programs, to the significant changes of his life and personal values after he started school, then to the influences that carving erasers have on him. This chapter is about the enlightenment of his creation. The second chapter “Life Perspective” is about his personal hobbies, values of life, and relationship with the modern society, which reflects on his style and the themes he wishes to discuss. The Third chapter “Influences of Art Movement” discusses the impact of Surrealism and Pop art on his style and spiritual aspects of works. The forth chapter “Composition Style” discusses composition styles, manners of expressions, usage of symbols and elements, conveying ideas by creating roles.
According to the discussion above, we can clearly notice that HUNG KUO-JUI’s composition closely related to not only his growing environment and personality, but also the art style he likes and the cartoons and TV programs that he has experienced. He absorbs all of those and convert them into his creative source. The roles and stories HUNG KUO-JUI creates are like his perspective of life. He hopes that readers can see the world from his perspective, and have a different life experiences and a further knowledge of HUNG KUO-JUI’s world of creation.
