“Subliminal Being” concerns with all the phenomena occurring to one, as a human being, and his or her surroundings. We perceive people, things, and objects, and then have our experiences and feelings. All that has been perceived is explicit to us, but conversely, “subliminal”, as opposed to “explicit”, is not non-existent. “Explicit” and “Subliminal” are two sides of one thing. Hence, this thesis is to discuss how such a phenomenon can be transformed into creation, and how content and form can be equally weighed.

First, we discuss “phenomenology” and “perception”, ranging from external complicated states to basic human needs as well as life and the value and meaning of living. This enormous relation has been leading us, from which the researcher seeks to explore “how we exist”; we present the discussion of “subliminal being” by other artists from conceptual and practical angles, and subsequently examine the work of the researcher. The works of the researcher use a substantial quantity of transparency and mirror material, which implies a phenomenological meaning, linking the creations from different series and further bringing up the themes such as mirroring, crossing, body, space, fields, viewer participation, and looking and being looked. Through art creation, we connect many issues and consider the possibility and versatility in them.

This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter starts with the background, followed by a systematic presentation of questions, discussion, argumentation, and motivation as well as the research method. The second chapter offers the literature review as the theoretical framework, and discusses artists and the forms and statements of creation of their works. The third chapter describes the core idea of creation of the researcher, deliberating on the completeness, the relation between the works and the environment and the internal and external spaces of the works. In the fourth chapter, we dissect the works into three series, and offer a thorough analysis of them. The fifth chapter concludes the existence of subliminal being in the research of creation, and reflects upon the gap between reality and ideal.
