Creation Description of 3D Animation“ Unnormal Generosity” and Investigation of Documentary Animation

國立臺中科技大學 / 多媒體設計系碩士班 / Author:Yen-Hua Chiu

An documentary animation is a combination of both animations and documentaries, using animation techniques to tell a story and creating a media form that includes both fictional and real elements. As a result, viewers of documentary animations will ask whether the content of the documentary animation is true when real and imaginary shows together. How do documentaries and animation blend? Or, how can animation maintain realism in documentaries?

John Grierson defined the documentaries as "creative treatment of actuality", and his theory has been widely used for at least 20 years and is also currently the most frequently quoted definition of a documentary, but it has actually always been controversial. Taiwanese documentary director and scholar Dao-ming Li believes that this sentence should be expanded to "creatively processing previously existing real things or events that have occurred". Therefore, if animation is used in a documentary animation, the "real" part is the real things in the story, and the creative part is the animation presentation.

Although documentary animations are a new type of media form that combines animations and documentaries, through the addition of animation, it expands the expression form and possibilities of documentaries and can better express subjectivity and creativity. At the same time, it maintains the "reality" in documentaries and achieves a good balance between objective presentation and artistic expression, promoting a more artistic expression of "reality" in documentaries. Therefore, the relationship between animated documentaries and animation and documentaries is inclusive, achieving a good balance between objective presentation and artistic expression and promoting a more artistic expression of "reality" in documentaries.

This work, " Unnormal Generosity," is 3D documentary animation, was created with 3D animation, showing the hand-drawn illustration style of Taiwan's streetscapes and to record the life of Taiwan's great person, Shu-chu Chen from childhood to the present, and all that she has silently dedicated to the world.
