This paper discusses E. Ysaÿe’s Sonata for Violin Solo No. 4 with reference to its historical position in the so-called Franco-Belgian School. This paper compares Ysaÿe’s composition styles with those of his predecessors. This paper demonstrates how Ysaÿe combines old and new techniques to show colorful violin music.
