The main purpose of this thesis aims to include life experiences ; explore the relationship between memory and self ; examine the correlation between the surrounding environment and life totems through the making and the creative concept of paintings ; exploring natural life through the understanding of inner-self and daily experiences by using home garden plants as objects, doing sketches of the scenery, referencing to the memory, relying on a variety of experimental techniques in order to create a new realm.
This thesis is divided into five chapters : The first chapter aims to study the motivation, purpose, content, and methods of the thesis, and to explain its keywords in order to: explore the relationship between life, ecology and viewing totems, seeking life and memory in the image of greenery ; systematically integrate the image data through collection and analysis to complete the theory and creative practice of the author.
The second chapter discusses the theoretical basis of life totems. Through literature, natural life totems and daily environment are examined and explained via the scientific basis and historical context. Furthermore, the perception of culture, life totems, and “resting” ecology are analyzed one by one. From researching relevant artists, the author is influenced by and led to the discovery of a deepened self-creation.
The third chapter introduces the author’s creative ideas and practices. Those are analyzed and explained through life totems, the transformation of material dialogue and creative concepts, and the application and effectiveness of the media.
The analysis part of the fourth chapter is divided into three series, namely “Life Totem Series”, “Viewing and Rest Series” and “Sentiment and Affection Series”.
Chapter 5 concludes this painting creation thesis by reflecting on and reviewing its research results, discussing the personal style and artistic language of the author, and sharing a prospect for future creations.
