Samuel Barber(1910-1981)is one of the most outstanding American composer in twentieth -century. His works remained traditional music form, written with beautiful singing melody. Most of his works used modern music elements. Barber's music style is rich in a uniqueness and special feature.
“Souvenirs” had three editions, first is four-hand piano edition, second is orchestra edition for ballet, third is piano solo edition. The suite is consisted of six pieces: Waltz, Schottische, Pas de deux, Two-Step, Hesitation-Tango, Galop. The six pieces are composed by different dance styles.
This study is consisted of five chapters. Chapter one is an introduction on the research
objectives and methods. Chapter two includes the life of Samuel Barber and characteristic style of works. Chapter three discusses the background of this work and the music analysis. Chapter four is my interpretation of the piece. Chapter five is the conclusion.
