On the basis of the summer production《8 Women》, presented by School of Theatre Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts in 2022, this thesis traces the historical origins and development of reasoning and detective novels, and explores what is their enduring appeal? Then explore how people in different eras and societies develop feelings of unfamiliarity and anxiety about familiar environments, and where do they come from?

By examining the origins of the term "Uncanny" as proposed by Ernst Jentsch, this study explores the meaning of "home" and the psychological relationship between individuals and their homes. It contrasts the cultural and historical backgrounds of the era when the play was written with the present day, highlighting how similar social upheavals in different times can evoke the same sense of unease among people. This analysis delves into how individuals across different eras struggle within the indescribable anxiety, attempting to break free from the constraints of life but ultimately facing a sense of helplessness. The insights gained from this research will serve as the basis for lighting design, transforming these concepts into the play's interplay of light and shadow.
