Creative Discourse of Documentary “Station to Station”

國立臺灣藝術大學 / 電影學系 / Author:HO, PO-YEN

The documentary Station to Station is based on personal memories, specifically my financially unstable days as a teenager in AnKang Affordable Housing, which had been demolished later on. The film also takes inspiration from a trip to visit relatives in China with my parents. Those life experiences have led me to examine the relationship with my family and the meaning of “home” and “hometown”. The film had captured familiar faces and places, and the journeys and memories, putting them together like a jigsaw. Time took something away as it left others, and I have been growing up with those scattered moments.

I tried to broaden the narrative possibilities by using documentary materials and combining the characteristics of drama and the elements seen in experimental films. Lots of decisions were made during the making of this film, but what never changed was the determination to face the confusion and trauma with sincerity. It is through this process that I was able to turn the emotions into art.

This paper demonstrates the complete creative process of Station to Station. It’s an overview of all the decisions and judgements made during the creative process of making this film, and presents the various thoughts behind them. This paper consists of five chapters: the introduction is a description of the story’s background, the motivations and the purposes of the film; the second chapter is a literature review of the social contexts and the narrative forms that contribute to the themes of the film; the third chapter discusses the concept and the content of the creation; the fourth chapter is a detailed description and analysis of the production process; the final chapter discusses the feedback from the audience after the premiere, followed by my thoughts on the creative process of the film.

A production schedule, full off-screen script, and related literature work are included in the appendix for reference.
