“Shackled” is a film that discusses human memories of domestic violence. Choke collar (P chain) is a curl tool, and it symbolizes family violence and insinuate self-restrained. The little boy in the film, Xiao Nan, has some illusional images on his mind because of his parent’s estrangement for a long time. Those surrealism images in mind are triggered by changing stuffs or events at home. The affected levels have already been distinguishable on the reality or virtualization. This behavior is similar to dog training with choke collar (P chain). The dog has no idea whether there is a choke collar on its neck or not. It just becomes one kind of habit, a procedural memory. Whenever an order is given, it responds it immediately. Choke collar (P chain) and Xiao Nan’s mind have some kind of connection. The form is content that expresses in visual and make a subconscious community with audience.
In realizing the creation concept, a high-speed camera combines image sequence changing and editing effect to produce Xiao Nan’s illustration processing. It makes the memory procedure in the brain embody in the screen, and use detective drama screenplay form to lead the audience to figure the story out.
This thesis discusses how “Shackled” goes through the other aspect of family problem to induce Xiao Nan’s complex inner thoughts with choke collar connection, as correlation form of the human memories. How reality and fantasy are interlaced in psychology and interpret creator how experimentally expresses combination of the form and narration, and thinks out of traditional concepts.
