Carl. Czerny (Carl Czerny, 1791-1857) was an Austrian pianist, composer, and music educator, as well as a student of Beethoven and teacher of Liszt and many other musicians. Speaking of piano etudes, Czerny is a well-known composer and music educator. He has composed a lot of etudes. There are 76 numbered etudes, and he is the authoritative figure of classical piano etudes. The feature of his work “Czerny’s 160 Kurze Übungen, op.821” is that each piece of music has only 8 measures. Czerny concentrates his practice on it, and uses the shortest length to achieve the purpose of practicing skills. The performance skill of this work is the part that will be discussed. I hope that through this paper, I can have a deeper understanding of Czerny's etudes.

This thesis takes Czerny's work “Czerny’s 160 Kurze Übungen, op.821” as the main research topic. In addition to understanding the life of the composer and his creative background, it will also explore the performance techniques in the song and how to use it in piano repertoire.
