Over the years, Liuqin has evolved through various interpretations and musical accompaniments to sound more delicate and elegant.

The creation of Liuqin together with poetry has been quite few, featuring Sword Wave and Call of the Distant Mountains. Sword Wave was composed by Xu, Changjun after college at the age of 28. Back in Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Xu, Changjun met Wu, Qiang, who inspired him to create Sword Wave,“the folk music milestone.”It was integrated with Du Fu’s Watching the Grandson’s Disciple’s Dance. Call of the Distant Mountains was composed by Chen, Nengji in 1987, combining Liuqin and band. Its lyric depicts a young wanderer in search of a soul mate, and melody emulates the beauty a flying swallow of in the style of folk song.
