Taiwan’s traditional free market is rich in local culture that with warm hospitality, fresh produce and localized characters. The market has become a communicating platform for residents in urban and rural. However, because of the threat of chain stores and hypermarkets as well as a change in social structure, traditional free market in Taiwan is facing a risk of disappearance.
“Jing-Xin Market” is a work given attention to the relationship between traditional space and the society today. By way of cultural listening and semiotic assemblage, the my imagination has been rebuilt gradually. Furthermore, the coding of the entire work was based on open source and processed on the free software -
Pure Data. Therefore as a new media visual jockey, I was able to interact with the audience through prompt, video-audio performance, create an atmosphere which the audience could instantly remind themselves of.
Again The work “Jing-Xin Market” based on the point through the field of traditional market and discusses several issues such as social structure, consumer behavior, field analysis, types of performance and art creation. From literature review and creative experience, as an artist myself meticulously deals with the thread of thought of creation, incorporates practical experience and ground theory to breakthrough the past creation form and thinking. The purpose of this artwork is to inspire people’s reflection of their own living experience and to rethink the possibility of the disappearance of traditional field in the contemporary society.
