ABSTRACT

This study, titled Someone in the Road, develops three personal book projects to explore the practical possibilities of “visual creation of text” within the context of book design. Drawing from the researcher’s long-term accumulation of writing—including prose, short texts, and commercial copywriting—the project reinterprets these texts through visual language, aiming to transform the book from a mere content container into a medium for personal perspective and expression.

The research unfolds across three dimensions: first, the theoretical context of text and symbol, addressing textual structure, semiotic meaning, and interpretive methods; second, the formal aspects and visual vocabularies of book design, analyzing how various creative cases reflect the integration of author and designer roles; and third, the actual production of three stylistically distinct books—Someone in the Road, which combines narrative and illustration to construct reading rhythm; Deviation, which responds to fragmented and suspended moments of daily life; and After Wandering, which deconstructs and reorganizes the relationship between language and symbol within commercial text.

Through these design practices, the study transforms personal texts into readable, perceptible visual forms, while also clarifying the creator’s conceptual logic and creative trajectory. It provides practical insights into the interplay between text visualization and book design.
