Edward Benjamin Britten (1913—1976),was one of the greatest modern British composers after Henry Purcell (1659—1695) from Baroque Period, and he made the British music regain its worldwide reputation. His compositional techniques are inclusive and not limited to any specific form. His art songs merged the classical modes with modern harmonic languages to became his own style. Poet Robert Burns (1759—1796), was also one of the important representatives in the history of Scottish literature. His works reflected the Scottish landscape and culture. This research includes information of Britten and Burns’ lives and styles, with an additional chapter of formatic detailed analysis and performer’s interpretation on each song from “Four Burns Songs”.
