This research mainly focusses on the yangqin version of Liang hui Lu 's piano concerto "Dance Rhyme in the Style of Xinjiang" adapted by Ming hui Lin. Through the study, Ming hui Lin’s creative process adapting the work is discussed. The version for the yangqin division in the "NCO Instrumental Music Competition-2020 Yangyangdeyi New Talents Search" is selected to discuss how a yangqin performer utilizes understanding of yangqin the instrument as well as music in general to adapt piano music for yangqin. It will also discuss how analyzation of musical structure plays an important role in interpretation of this music.
Through analyzing references and interviewing composers and adapters, summarizing the composer’s opinion about the creative background and the adapters, combining with the comparison about the difference between the piano and the yangqin, this thesis analyzes the thoughts and the characteristics of the adaptation as well as the adapting thoughts of the adaptor. Then, through the analysis about the music form, the harmonies and the techniques of this musical work to attempt grasping the foundations and imaginations of this piece.
The following results are obtained through the research, updating the list of Lu Lianghui's life and works, the introduction of an outstanding yanquin player Lin Minghui and her adapted works, and the adapting inspiration enlightened by the different aspects of different instruments. The thesis analyzed the following aspects, different string striking tools(rubber holster and wool felt) and different performing techniques (Anti-bamboo, plucked strings) that created sound variations, using the concept of polyphony music to compose bicinium, reduced orchestral composition due to the lower volume of yangqin, variations on the harmony of accompaniment in the repeated parts, the added Cadenza to connect the tonality. In bamboo method on yangqin, the notes d3#, c3# are usually played with left hand and the note a2# with right hand, the combination of notes and imaginary picture, emotional variants on the same ornaments, the structure of the arpeggio and the decomposed chord that emphasizes the aura of the image, bicinium simulating two singers or two dancers conversing, further combination of music and imagination. The thesis presents the researches listed above for future reseraches.
