As far back as I can remember, I have always sought to discover the source of who I am—the reason I have become the person I am now—through creative endeavors. I try to express a variety of life experiences through my artwork as well as analyze them. Then, as the pieces accumulate, I identify the common traits which exist among them. This has helped me to understand my own qualities and characteristics (as well as those of my artwork), and, during the process, my life experiences have become more closely interwoven and connected within my mind. Consequently, I gradually came to realize that “trivial incidents”—those issues which we are most reluctant to mention—often turn out to be what impact us the most. They are considered trivial because they are characterized by a state of unavoidability and commonality, and so we let them pass and do not pursue them any further. But now, as an artist, I believe it is my obligation to confront these incidents through my artwork and thereby come to terms with who I really am.

We are bound to always live within the constantly constrictive confines of the various rules and norms imposed on us by society. These boundaries often conflict with our own wishes and ideals in life, thus leading to the fact that our behaviors and our beliefs often contradict each other. In this life, more often than not, certain prerequisites must first be met before the main goal can be achieved. Yet during this process, we may need to opt for a detour or make compromises, and people sometimes find themselves disoriented along the way. Therefore, in order to persistently pursue my ideals and realize myself, I must constantly make choices and struggle my way through it all. At the same time, I also need to accept contradictions and seek to challenge them as they exist within the confines of the rules (i.e., of law and life). I believe that only an existence marked by relentless efforts to fight against the contradictions which constantly emerge in life while continuing to work towards realizing one’s ideals in the wake of failure is praiseworthy. This has also been the experience of many artists and magnificent souls, both ancient and modern, during their lifelong journeys throughout history. Therefore, I want to express my admiration and appreciation for this kind of existence through my artwork and achieve total mental and spiritual gratification in the process.

I consider a good artist to be someone who never stops questioning the reality of life, or even someone who rebels against it. In other words, a good artist should try his best to extricate himself from the boundaries of reality. Art allows certain desires to be expressed and even have such ideas win the understanding and approval by other people. Artists realize a variety of imaginations and aspirations through their artwork which are otherwise unattainable in real life, thereby making the impossible possible.
