Ferruccio Busoni(1866-1924)was a famous composer and a pianist at the end of the 19 century. Refer to the identity of the composer, Busoni was admired by his skills of transcription. In 1893, F. Busoni adapted J.S. Bach’s《Six Partitas No. 2, BWV 1004》for piano and dedicated to the pianist Eugen d' Albert(1864-1932). This piano version is the most often performed of many transcriptions.

The transcription of Bach-Busoni Chaconne is the most popular piece for performers, I have integrated the transcription methods into six categories, the harmony texture, the expansion of the range, the additional of new musical materials, the imitated sound of instruments, the increase of tremolo and musical terms. Through the summary, I can better grasp the different core concepts of Bach’s original pieces and Busoni’s transcriptions when performing.

The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the transcription of Bach-Busoni Chaconne, which can be divided into three parts: The first part discusses the background of F. Busoni、the history of Chaconne and the features of compositions;The second part explores the analysis and performance interpretation of Chaconne;The third part discusses the differences between Busoni' s transcriptions and Bach's original compositions including harmony structure, musical structure, and sound effects, submit a personal report on this piano pieces.
