Nowadays people seem to have more distance with the places where they are being with. In the study, I investigate what the relationship between people and place and how it affects people’s feeling. Finally, there are an exhibition to present the investigations into art forms.
Fuzhou, a part of Banqiao district in New Taipei City where I live and my campus located, is the researched area in the study. The entire research is a process to understand the opinion about place between others and myself. Several different measures has applied and the results have been turned into art works in various forms, such as photography series that combined the concept of Environmental Portrait and Photographic Sequence. Also, three art plans that inviting people to share their own feelings and thoughts about the place. Afterward, I use different ways to respond the opinions from others and discover ideas which I don’t notice before.
Beside the reference to Human Geographic theories and Fuzhou’s history help a lot to the research, an experimental approach called” Dérive” created by Guy Debord also inspires me to explore the place. Reflexivity and intersubjectivity are the important elements in the whole study.
At the end of the journey between others, place, and myself, the meaning of the travelling and living there has come out. To explore and know a place is actually a way to find ourselves. Place is like a mirror that makes people understand themselves much more.
