Hybrid media enables interaction of various types and forms of media. In recent years, artists have used hybrid media to display a wide variety of creative works. The media employed by the artists can be natural elements, artifacts, machinery or electronic media as well as forms that integrate analogue state and digital structure.

I am interested in the mixed application of various media, sound and rhythm. My thesis, “Hybrid Sound Form,” discusses two art works using hybrid media, “Sway Lotus to Sing” and "Iberia". Both of these works use hybrid media:a hybrid of visual and auditory elements; and a hybrid of digital and analogue information. “Sway Lotus to Sing” focuses on sound generation:an electrical current is run through liquid mercury, triggering an integrated circuit chip. In "Iberia" light, shadow and sound are generated by an light-emitting diode and jumping and sparkling light is brought about by the electronic components physically beating a ready-made cup. “Sway Lotus to Sing” presents digital sound using the effects of electrical conduction; while "Iberia" presents noise generated by contact with ready-made objects. Both works create different acoustic experiences. This thesis discusses the aesthetics of "visual sound" of the two works.
