The theory and practice of Video-casting an opera-a case study of Idomeneo's Cover

Temporarily unlisted

Most of the video recordings of music performances are conducted with a single static camera. To preserve full presentation of the stage set, props and costumes, this project increases the number of cameras aiming to present the opera in full details. With the help of mobile studio, we not only can monitor and direct the cameras throughout the performance, but input the images into the computer and edit the end product together.

This study focuses on the quality and content in video-casting an opera, the research is divided into three parts: the first is to record the script-reading and rehearsals in the preparation; the second is to design the take by close-reading the score and control the cameras during the performance; the last part is to input all the captured images into the computer and edit with the director. The final product is composed of two parts, namely the actual performance and the making of the production, the former for the content of the formal performance, while the latter presents the plays on the construction details.
