Chamber music is a form of performance in which people cooperate with each other when performing music. It has a profound history. With the changes of the ages, the meaning and composition of chamber music have varied enormously. This paper focuses on the history of chamber music, especially detailed study on duet sonata is provided. Beethoven’s Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24 is used as example, contents include the composer’s condensed biography, compositional features and background. Detailed music analysis in addition to comparison of selected editions of music scores and recordings are also included for performance reference.
