Aram Khachaturian (1903-1978) was a talent composer, conductor and music educator in Armenia in the twentieth century was also considered one of the leading Soviet composers. He devoted to bring his motherland music into his compositions; therefore most of his music contained the spirit of Armenian folk music. Khachaturian’s compositions were versatile, such as symphonies, concertos, ballets, chamber music, and even cinema music. His famous works involved with dramas or ballet, including “Spartacus" and “Gayane" for ballet, and "Masquerade Suite", a symphony suite for theater. The “Trio for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano” was composed in 1932, which was one of his famous chamber music work.

This thesis includes five chapters. Chapter one describes the research motivation, purpose, and method. Chapter two introduces the life and composition background of Khachaturian. Chapter three discusses the structure and analysis of the “Trio for Clarinet, violin, and piano”. Chapter four discusses about the performance style and interpretation of the clarinet part of this work. The last chapter is the conclusion of this thesis.
