Wang Dan-Hong is a composer who is very active in music scene for the last few years, her compositions are evocative and majestic. For example, her Yangqin concerto” Rhapsody”, has been a popular piece in all kinds of competitions and concerts since it was composed in 2011. Due to the reason above, the author is motivated to make an analysis of her erhu concerto Strings of Lingnan which combined Cantonese music elements with erhu, and is composed upon the request of Guangdong Chinese Orchestra.
The researches and publications about Wang Dan-Hong only began for the last few years, and the researches of her erhu compositions are even less. By doing a great quantity of research and visiting the composer Wang Dan-Hong, study deeply about the young composer whose compositions are majestic and full of cultural heritage with strong theoretical basis, in order to construct the chapters of the composer’s learning process and composing idea.
Through the methods above and the author’s own music experience, in order to make a complete analysis of the piece, generalize the common techniques of Cantonese music and its development and changes. Explore the composer’s composing style and interior through Strings of Lingnan, further more to understand how Cantonese music style applies on erhu performance.
