A Study of Motion Graphics Application for Vinyl Records Packaging of Taiwanese Nursery Rhymes
The development of vinyl records in Taiwan originated during the Japanese occupation period. Over time, carriers of music listening have changed owing to the development of technology, from the original phonograph to the current online music streaming platform and then to the revival of vinyl records. The packaging design of records is receiving increasing attention due to the trend.
At that time, nursery rhymes gradually became widely known via vinyl records. To this day, people's childhood memories are still full of fascinating rhymes. Therefore, Taiwan nursery rhymes are chosen as the theme of this study, and the storyline is presented in pixel style.
Pixel art is a computer graphics genre that uses pixels as the basic unit. It evolved from the rudimentary computer graphics, which were struggling with the old computer technology. Back to the most primitive drawing method in computer graphics, and create by designing abstract or non-abstract pixel points and then integrating them with nursery rhyme songs. Implement a new dynamic image technique to create a new packaging design for vinyl records.
Therefore, this creative research uses document analysis to explore the origin of vinyl records, record packaging design, the application of pixel art, and the historical evolution and cultural background of Taiwanese nursery rhymes. Vinyl records, as one of the modes of communication, became quite popular after the phonograph era. Influenced by different cultures and time and space exchanges, the melody, lyrics, story content, and cultural history of nursery rhymes all reflect the current social situation at that time and are of research value. By combining modern pixel art style images with nursery rhyme stories, the visual representation of nursery rhymes is presented, contributing to related creative research in Taiwan.
In the "Selected Album of Taiwanese Nursery Rhymes," "Taiwanese Nursery Rhymes," "Taiwanese Nursery Rhyme Gardener - Research on Shi Fuzhen's Songs," "The Story of Taiwanese Nursery Songs", " Taiwanese Nursery Song Collection" and "Taiwanese Nursery Rhymes," selected 12 nursery rhymes that were introduced to Taiwan and were sung and circulated locally as the central theme, applied modern pixel art to the vinyl record cover and packaging design, and combined AR augmented reality technology to present dynamic images on mobile phone. Through this, a creative study will give the audience a deeper understanding of the historical story of nursery rhymes and provide a reference for future related creations.
