This creative research, Tea and Twenty-Four Solar Terms, explores the interrelationship between Taiwanese Tea Culture and the Twenty-Four Solar Terms in photographic forms. Snacking while enjoying a cup of tea has always been one of the most popular leisure activities in Taiwan. Tea related commercial affairs had also been a major source of income in early Taiwanese economy. As an agriculture based society, climate played a detrimental role in how things were conducted. In the old times, our ancestors would perform rituals and offer sacrifices every month in accordance with the lunar calendar. The Twenty-Four Solar Terms governs not only agricultural practices but daily routines.
In this creative research, there are twenty-four correspondent visual image combinations built upon the Taiwanese tea culture influenced by the Twenty-Four Solar Terms. Each digital image is composed and contextualized using Taiwanese tea, local foods, flowers and plants under strategic lighting and exposure.
The purpose of this creative research is to promote Taiwanese Tea Culture through digital photographic imagery and to demonstrate the potential of Taiwanese cultural aesthetic elements to the international community, furthermore to serve as an inspirational source to artists around the world.
