The Cake

國立臺灣藝術大學 / 多媒體動畫藝術學系動畫藝術碩士班 / Author:TU, YU-PEI

When studying the relationship between the visual sense of sight and images in semiotics, this study regards an image as a prototypical story articulated through the visuals, which serves as a projection that allows the thoughts in mind to be realized through personalized animation work based on the medium of visual semiotics.

The 3D animation creative adopts the cake as the symbol of a heartfelt appreciation, while the cakes made by parent-children collaboration would be the central theme expressed through storyline and role arrangement via the moral of the story to formulate the second order of signification in Roland Barthes’ semiotics, as the light-hearted highlights manifest the connotations behind the images, the gem-like meanings behind the visual images.

This creative work utilizes the color narratives in semiotics and the symbolic meanings of the visual code to design its presentation, and conveys the sentiment of appreciation through cakemaking and the significance of parent-children communication through the storyline arrangement. In terms of animation production, there are three vital points of reflection in elevating the efficacy of 3D animation production such as, (1) make the 3D storyboard for 3D animation to assist in the arrangement for the interaction between the characters and the set models, as well as the layout production, (2) utilize Blender Eevee real-time rendering to reduce rendering time, and finally, streamline the process of making emoji and use material ball setting and film post-production to achieve the watercolor and oil-painting stroke effect, as the key visual expression of 3D animation.
