Love of Rhalupalingi is a bamboo flute composition that was composed by Liú Chēn Líng based on a piece of music from Rukai, Dalubaling. Liú Chēn Líng is one of the representative bamboo flute players in modern Taiwan. Through her understanding of musical instruments, she applies the features of a bamboo flute to the composition and presents both the musicality and techniques through music. The author was instructed by Liú Chēn Líng during her time at the university. On May 7, 2019, the author first performed Love of Rhalupalingi at her graduation concert in the Fú Zhōu Music Venue of the National Taiwan University of Arts. Love of Rhalupalingi is a composition that was composed by a Taiwanese composer using local musical materials, which serves as the reason for the author to study the composition.

Through literature review and interview method, this study organizes the composer’s (Liú Chēn Líng) views on music, composing background, and ideas. This study also applies the literature reviews on Dalubaling and flute techniques to the music analysis in chapter three and the music interpretation in chapter four. The melody of Love of Rhalupalingi is based on the Rukai music, Dalubaling. The study discusses the composition of Love of Rhalupalingi from three perspectives including the use of Dalubaling as a material, the structure of the composition, and its melody. The study shows the differences between the same piece of music in different tonality by presenting the music with flute in G and E major.

Music interpretation in the study was conducted based on rational music analysis. The study presents the connotation and ideas behind the composition by interpreting the composition and interviewing the composer. Additionally, the study conducts a derivative work perceptual interpretation of the composition. It is hoped that the study will serve as a reference for other players in their research and interpretation.
