“Galloping Ink Brush Writing Reflects The Linear Characteristic Itself” as the title of the study in which the author begins with the essence of the calligraphy lines and attempts to discuss the line’s art. Indeed, the condition of the combination of lines and characters is not enough to become calligraphy arts. Whether the consciousness of imagery is before or after writing, calligraphy arts should constitute by creator’s own aesthetic experience and following his or her inclinations when writing. Besides, the line qualified to be called calligraphy arts must reflect creator’s emotional characterization.
The author enlightened by the art of line through academic study and examination of works, hoping to learn the predecessors’ wisdom and perspective in the context of calligraphic inheritance. The author examines her thoughts constantly in order to construct the creative viewpoint which ought to be regarded as a firmly rock.
This thesis is composed of four chapters. The first one is an introduction to the creative motivation, purpose, materials, and procedure. The second chapter is about the theoretical foundation in which the author tried to review and clarify the related references. The third chapter is concerned with the construction of the creative viewpoint. The last chapter is the interpretation of creative process and the works display. According to the creative contents, the works in the year 2013 to2014 were divided into three series ─ “Masculine and Vital Series”, “Elegant and Implicit Series”, “Clumsy and Wild Series”. With regard to the visual shape, the author attempts to show the line’s characteristic through ink brush writing. To fulfill the creator’s idea, the author starts her study from traditional calligraphy; moreover, she explores herself and talks to her spiritual inner. The study is expected to find a mutually corresponding balance of traditional calligraphy and contemporary one.
