Up around 20th century, the development of western music has flourished into a
paramount status. After 1950s, with the advancing development of computer
technology a new genre of the “electronic music” emerged which provides the
musicians a whole new spectrum in terms of musical language and structure.
Although the music of this period is highly experimental and still needs to be
exploited, it opens up new possibilities and provides new ways of thinking in
music making, and the journey of exploring still carries on nowadays.
In my thesis, there are two main focal points. The first is to probe into the
musical language and forms of postmodern contemporary music through research
and references. And the second is the compositions which I composed by
employing different compositional theories and techniques.
